Law would ban serving obese diners

Lawmakers don't need to protect non-smokers from smokers...non-smokers can leave the establishments that allow smoking. Of course the cry baby non-smokers don't want any restrictions, but they want to place them on everyone else. You act like you can get cancer if you only go to non-smoking establishments. Why take it out of the hands of the restaurant owner?? Because non-smokers are babies that want everything and won't give up anything. " .

Some realtors tout green' credentials in tough market

Wouldn't you rather work with a Realtor who shares your values in environmental and social responsibility?" and sends its agents to environmentally friendly building courses. Last fall, Harry Norman Realtors in Atlanta had 48 Realtors certified by EcoBroker International, which educates Realtors on eco-friendly homes and marketing. Meanwhile, individual Realtors are carving "green" niches for themselves: Celeste Karan, of Keller Williams Realty in Chicago, started www.greenhomechicago.com, a site where she lists properties and promises "to help home buyers understand what truly constitutes a 'green building.' " Such agents say their knowledge of environmentally friendly designs and materials can help clients in several ways. First, the brokers will link interested buyers to homes that are built with eco-friendly features, like solar power and energy-efficient appliances.

Freezing weather a hot time for furnace repairmen

Chances are it's coming from your poor overworked furnace in the utility room.

Or it could be a loud sigh from the heating people in the Fox Valley -- who, after getting reacquainted with their families these last couple of moderate-temp days, must now go back into battle as winter returns with a vengeance.

Fact is, we got spoiled. The past few winters have been unusually mild, which makes the current arctic blast like a, well, arctic blast of reality. Aurora, in particular, has sustained a string of sub-zero temperatures, including the day we hit 17 below and officially became the coldest place in the country.

And no one is feeling the frigid effects more than businesses trying to keep up with the calls from us unfortunate schmucks who have awakened -- or arrived home from work -- to igloo-like conditions because the furnace is on the fritz.

What Should People That Don't Believe in Manmade Global Warming be ...

I chose "skeptic" because liberals cannot fairly lay exclusive claim to the term. This the way they really want it BTW. "Journalists" in particular really consider that term their baby.

Nope, the sword cuts both ways.

If "skeptic" is good enough for other issues of consensus science, then it's good enough for AGW.

Grace of Giving: Friends of Hospice eases final days for uninsured

James Holland had a terrible decision to make.

The 63-year-old could receive radiation treatment for cancer that had spread from his lungs to his brain, and perhaps live another four months. "But it wouldn't be a good four months," said his sister, Jacqualyn Watson.

Or he could go home to die in perhaps two months, but without the strain of further treatment.

Holland, a retired heating and air conditioning technician, chose to receive hospice, or end-of-life care, at home. But he had no insurance to pay for it.

Yet the day he returned home, a nurse showed up. She talked with him and gauged his needs, entering it all into a laptop computer. The next day, Sept. 19, a hospital bed and wheelchair arrived.
