Killing is sixth in year for NLR area

For the first time since she moved into a house on West 19 th Street in North Little Rock, Jacqueline Ridgel said she's starting to wonder if her neighborhood is safe.

In the past year, the Baring Cross neighborhood has had six homicides, including four in the past three months. The latest, a shooting early Sunday, happened in a house just down the street from Ridgel's.

"I've got two teenage boys," Ridgel said. "If they tell me they want to go to the basketball court right now, I probably wouldn't even let them go.” Police are concerned about the spate of killings in the neighborhood and are developing a response, said Sgt. Terry Kuykendall, a Police Department spokesman.

"To have a rash of violent crime like [the neighborhood has ] had, obviously, it's something that definitely stands out and makes people take notice," Kuykendall said.

PSEG giving $500K to shuttered NJ Museum

The shuttered State Museum in Trenton is due to receive a $500,000 multi-year grant from the PSEG Foundation, the first major gift to its year-old $13 million fund-raising campaign.

New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells will host a public ceremony on Wednesday announcing the gift.

"It's great to have that support and leadership from PSEG," said the museum's interim director, Barbara Fulton Moran. "It's wonderful."

The grant represents a significant milestone for the renovation project, which is almost 2 1/2 years behind schedule and millions of dollars over original cost projections. Poor planning, construction problems and a dramatic change in the focus of the renovation have stretched an 18-month effort into almost four years.

PSEG is not concerned about the delays in the renovation or the fact that the museum remains closed, a company spokeswoman said.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Angel Lola Luv’s Implants EXPOSED! Jim Jones Vs. Max ...

Its sort of expected, and a primary reason why the music business has collapsed. The sports world relies on a mix of business people, coaches, ex players and players to further an organized growing path in what it does. Its why it does well and we remain fans. I'm embarrassed at how musicians and artists in other genres of music make us appear to be greed infested, structure-less idiots when it comes down to the organization of black music and culture."

To punctuate his point, Chuck D told AllHipHop.com, “It is quite clear that these folk could care less. The same thing that happened to Motown, is Def Jam's fate. In my opinion the fact that 10-15 individuals in the guise of hovering buzzards are given keys to the culture based on their alliances with these corporations, is a partial reasons for the troubled condition its in.

Fallen Bainbridge champ still hanging around gym

Marie Welsh spun through the air, her body completing a flip with 2 1/2 twists before her feet landed solidly on the floor mat.

Most of the Bainbridge High junior's body stopped twisting when her feet hit the mat. Her left knee was the exception.

There was no audible pop, no exclamations of pain. Only a "mushy" feeling around her swollen knee signaled the torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus that brought Welsh's precocious gymnastics career to an equally precocious halt last May.

The fear of reinjuring the knee never subsided. When she turned out for Bainbridge's first practice of the season in November, she would not even let herself jump from the low beam onto the floor.

"I decided I wasn't going to do gymnastics because I just didn't want to reinjure it and go through that again," Welsh said.

Marina District foes want state probe of Murray

Odd the company can't pay taxes but can hire Dennis Junior to sue others for their business blunders. Finally, didn't they receive tax abatement to bulid that architectual monstrosity? Let's face it the Murrays are a prime example of the old saying it takes one generation to build wealth and two to blow it all. Emmett and Thomas would be appalled. " .
